In recent weeks we’ve seen some horrible tragedies in the world. Bridges and buildings collapsing,
floods, earthquakes, people rebelling against the government, violence, crime, and numerous
suicides.
God left his word to help us go through the storms of life and to show us the mistakes
and triumphs of our ancestors.
Today let’s open God’s word and let the Holy Spirit guide and instruct us.
The prophet Jeremiah was called by God, to be a prophet of doom
and destruction.
The people had turned away from the LORD, to worshipping false
gods. Sexual immorality was common and God was very
angry with his people.
The LORD commanded Thou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters
in this place. For thus saith the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the
daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them,
and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land; They shall die of grievous
deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried, but they shall be as
dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by
famine; and their carcasses shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for
the beasts of the earth. Jeremiah 16:1-4
Jeremiah was not to go into their houses to mourn the dead or pray for
the people, because God was removing His peace from the people.
Young and old would die in the land, and not be buried.
The voice of gladness and joy would no longer be heard
for the bridegroom or the bride.
Jeremiah warned the people time and time again to repent, but
they would not listen.
The people flocked to false prophets, who prophesied health, promiscuity,
and prosperity. They spoke “feel good” messages, to keep the offering
plates and churches full.
Jeremiah was mocked, beaten, and often thrown into prison for
the words of warning he spoke, but he faithfully obeyed the
commands of the LORD.
He said, the LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice
from his holy habitation…
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation,
and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. And the slain
of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end
of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall
be dung upon the ground. Jeremiah 25:32-33
God’s people today are being destroyed for lack of knowledge. God left us warnings,
wisdom, and promises in his word, but many refuse to read and believe it.
Great hurricanes, floods, famines, war, violence, fires, disease,
and evil are roaring through our lands, like a fierce lion.
The economy of many nations is falling apart, leaving many homeless and jobless.
The good news is that God is not broke. He can help us, if we only ask.
People cry, why has God pronounced all this great evil against us?
or what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?
God’s word says in Jeremiah 16:11-12
Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD,
and have walked after other gods, and have served the, and have worshipped them,
and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law; And ye have done worse that your
fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they
may not hearken unto me.
Jeremiah was so grieved at what was about to happen to God’s people
he said…
But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones,
and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay. Jeremiah 20:9
He was despised and hated, because he spoke the truth God placed
in his heart.
Jeremiah warned the pastors, Woe be to you for scattering the flocks and
not feeding them with the “meat” of God’s word.
Mine heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones
shake: I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome,
because of the LORD, and because of the words of his holiness. For the land is
full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places
of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right.
For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their
wickedness, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 23:10-11
Jeremiah’s voice cries out to us today…
Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the
LORD your God; and the Lord will repent him of the evil that he hath
pronounced against you. Jeremiah 26:13
And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried
away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof
shall ye have peace. Jeremiah 29:7
How many more lives have to be lost before we return to the LORD?
Each day we murder thousands of children with abortion and
child abuse.
Terrorist are blowing innocent victims and themselves up every week.
We must fall to our knees and humbly pray to our Father in heaven
for forgiveness.
He loves us so much he sent his son Jesus to die for our sins on
the cross 2000 years ago. He took the penalty that should have
been ours. God raised him from the grave and gave him all
power in heaven and earth.
It must grieve our Father, when we stubbornly refuse to turn
from the filth of our sins.
How it must hurt Him to hear newscasters speak about
fierce blows of mother nature, instead of urging people to
pray to our Father and Creator of all things, for his hedge
of protection to be upon us.
After the earthquake in Chile last week, a warning of possible tsunamis’
was issued for many parts of the world.
As God’s children, we united our hearts in prayer, and God calmed the ocean waves.
The newscasters said, when they lifted the tsunami warning, that Hawaii had
dodged a bullet, instead of thanking God for his protection.
Storms later ravaged many parts of the world, and we must fall to our knees and ask God
to protect and help us.
Jesus said, Ask and it will be given to you…
God pleads with us…
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye
call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity…
Jeremiah 29:11-14
For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all
nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee:
but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
Jeremiah 30:11
God’s hand of correction is calling us back.
Will you listen to his voice?
Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous. There is none to plead thy cause,
that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines. All thy lovers have
forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy,
with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were
increased. Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine
iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee. Jeremiah 30:12-15
Brothers and sisters, let us unite and call upon the name of Jesus to save us.
He alone holds the power to heal our wounds and calm the storms.
He can open up doors of favor to prosper our economy and help us rebuild on the solid
foundation of Jesus Christ.
Don’t let the next generation be destroyed; as in the days of
Jeremiah.
God lovingly preserved his word to protect us from making the same
mistakes as our forefathers. When he slew them, then they sought him.
If you’re afraid of the future, you don’t have to be…
God promises to never leave you or forsake you.
Lay your fears at his feet.
Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?
Jeremiah 32:27
If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves,
and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will
I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
He will forgive our sins and remember them no more.
Jesus is standing at the door of your heart with arms open
to receive you into his family.
Repent beloved.
Go and sin no more.
Call upon him in the day of trouble. He will deliver us
and we will glorify him.
Cast all your cares upon him, for he cares for you.
Merciful Father in heaven,
We humbly bow before your throne of grace asking for mercy.
We have sinned and rejected your laws and ordinances.
We have not loved you with our whole heart or our neighbors
as ourselves.
Forgive our sins and cover them with the blood of Jesus our Saviour.
We are not worthy of anything and are thankful you have not given
us the full punishment we deserve for our sins.
Please heal our lands and restore peace to our world.
Unite us in love to preach and publish your word with power.
Mend the broken families and hearts. Restore health to our
bodies and heal all our diseases.
Cast out the spirit of evil, pride, addictions, fornication, homosexuality,
pornography, prejudice, greed, and violence from our hearts.
Transform us into vessels of light, to reflect your love to all
people.
Place your hand of protection upon us and calm the raging storms
in our world. Under the shelter of your wings, we shall sleep in
peace, knowing you make us to dwell in safety.
Thank you for calming the waves and stopping tsunamis’ from
harming the people of Hawaii and other nations.
If you are for us, no one can stand against us.
We lift up prayers to you for all our brothers and sisters
who are addicted to drugs or alcohol. Cast out the demonic spirits
and make them whole. You are the great Physician and Healer.
We lift prayers to you for all who are suffering from sickness,
pain, or adversity. May your healing touch restore their strength
and give them peace. You have said whatever we ask in faith
believing, we shall receive…never the less, not our will but
thine be done.
Take out of power the wicked and overturn all laws
that are evil and unjust.
Raise up a new generation of young people, to lead and
rule the world. Help us to be godly men and women of
honesty and integrity, to serve you faithfully.
We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
Thank you for abundantly providing all our needs and
for your divine hand of favor and mercy upon us.
Not one of your good promises has ever failed.
You are good and your mercy endures forever.
In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen
For thus saith the LORD; Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people,
so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them. Jeremiah 32:42
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things,
which thou knowest not…
Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure thee, and will reveal unto them
the abundance of peace and truth.
And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me;
and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they
have transgressed against me. And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an
honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto
them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that
I procure unto it…
Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endureth
forever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into
the house of the LORD. Jeremiah 33:3,6,8-9,11
