Changing our lives; by changing our conversation

Posted on January 28, 2009 by valerie

In our society today, there are those who mock God and want
nothing to do with his commandments.

God loves us and left his loving words and commandments, to
protect us from ruining our lives and world.

Psalm 111:10 says….
The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.

The greatest commandment is we should fear, love and trust
in God above all things.

If we fear and love God, we will want to obey the second commandment.

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain;
for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Exodus 20:7

This means that we do not use his name in a wrong way, or choose to listen
or watch programming that dishonor’s Him.

We should do not curse, swear, lie, or deceive by His name.

We are not use satanic arts. Joining with or seeking the aid of people who practice
witchcraft, Wicca, wegeboards, cast spells, sorcery, horoscopes, physic hotlines,
voodoo, or fortune telling are practices that worship Satan and anger God.

The Bible warns…

Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be
defiled by them. I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 19:31

Lying and deceiving by God’s name is teaching false doctrine and prophesies…
or covering up an unbelieving heart or a sinful life, pretending to be a Christian.

We are to call upon God’s name in prayer, praise, and thanksgiving.

Each day we are exposed to people misusing God’s name and
the name of His son Jesus.

We are not to use their names uselessly or carelessly.

We are also not to speak evil about God or mock him.

Jesus was mocked prior to and during his crucifixion.
(Matthew 27:39-43)

The people cried out to Pilate to crucify Jesus.

They cursed not only Jesus, but their children when they said…

“His blood be on us and on our children.”
Matthew 27:25

Psalm 109:17-18, 20 says…

As he loved cursing, so let it come to him; as he did not delight in blessing
so let it be far from him. As he clothed himself with cursing as with his
garment, so let it enter his body like water and like oil into his bones…
Let this be the Lord’s reward to my accusers, and to those
who speak evil against my person.

Whatever we bless is blessed and whatever we curse is cursed.
If we curse, it will come upon us and our home.

God warns in his word…

The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
Psalm 9:17

We can’t be a good witness of our faith and use God’s name lightly or
in a bad way.

We are created in the image of God. If we curse someone or something
created by God, we are cursing our Creator and hurt Him deeply.

The tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men,
which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth
proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought
not so to be. James 3:8-10,

Choosing to walk away from any person or programming, like movies
or television that would misuse God’s name… honors him and brings a
blessing to us. It protects us from having those curses brought into
our own bodies and possessions.

If you have tapes, magazines, or books which would be displeasing
to God, throw them out immediately.

Jesus said, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him,
and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not
keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine,
but the Father’s which sent me. John 14:23-24

Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. John 15:14

Are you living with a parent or spouse that curses you…

In Matthew 5:44-45 Jesus said…

But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you,
do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who
spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be
sons of your Father in heaven…

Jesus knows how it feels when someone curses or mocks us.
He asks us to forgive them, as he has forgiven us.

By asking for mercy for the person, we receive mercy for ourselves.

God may put someone in our path that curses… as a test of our
love and devotion to Him and His commandments.

In Matthew 26:31-75
Jesus warned Peter he would deny him, 3 times before the
rooster crowed.

Peter boldly proclaimed, no way, I will never deny you. I would
rather die first.

Later that evening, Peter was questioned by women, if he was a follower
of Jesus. Three times he denied his LORD. In fear, he began to curse and
swear, to prove he wasn’t a follower of Jesus.

When Peter heard the rooster crow, he remembered the words of Jesus
and wept bitterly…

Jesus said…

Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess
before the angels of God: But he that denieth me before men shall be denied
before the angels of God. Luke 12:8-9

He promised…

Blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.
Matthew 11:6

Perhaps today… you like Peter, have cursed and used God’s name in
vain, in anger, or to impress your friends.

Repent beloved!

Go and sin no more!

Peter repented and after Jesus rose from the grave, he was
chosen to be a power witness and started the first Christian
church. He penned beautiful scriptures and sacrificially
used his life to serve the LORD.

The same God that forgave Peter, will gladly forgive you.

Whoever calls upon the name of the LORD, will be saved.

Use your mouth to bless and praise the LORD.

Stand up for Jesus and He’ll stand up for you!

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in
thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14

Are the commandments relevant in today’s society?

Absolutely!!!

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you?
let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness
of wisdom. James 3:13

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of this beautiful day which You have made.
Thank You for bringing us snow and rain to nourish our land
and provide us with water to bathe and drink. Thank You for
giving us abundant crops to provide food for our tables.

LORD, I have used Your name carelessly and not always in
a respectful way. I have not always turned my eyes and
ears from wrong things that would dishonor You and Your name.
I’ve had impure thoughts against others and cursed them in my heart.
I humbly ask for You to transform my heart, mind, and mouth to what
is pleasing in Your sight. Forgive and change me into the person
You created me to be. Help me not to compromise by beliefs or
convictions. Help me to stand fast in my faith and confession.

Violence, hate, and unforgiveness have poisoned our world.

Because we have neglected to teach your commandments

to our children and fellowman, evil has now come against us.

Our rebellion has allowed the hand of Satan to rise up. We have

sinned and done evil in your sight.

Our lands are cursed because of the foul and vulgar language

from our mouths. Death and disease destroy us, because we refuse

to feed our souls with your word, the bread of life.

Families are crumbling from divorce, unwed parents, incest,

homosexuality, rape, murder, and adultery. Cursing is now

commonplace on television and in our homes, and we

are reaping the filthy seed we have sown. As we loved

cursing, it has come to us.

Our ground is polluted with harmful chemicals and the blood

of the innocent victims of war and murder.

We deserve nothing but your anger and punishment, but are

thankful you have given us hope through the sacrificial death

of your son Jesus.

He is our Saviour and the Prince of Peace. The government is

upon his shoulders.

You have said, if your people who are called by your name

will humble themselves and pray, and turn from their sins,

then your will hear from heaven and forgive, and heal

our land.

We cry out to you and beg for your mercy.

LORD, hear the threats of terror and blasphemy against you

and come to our rescue.

Remove the wicked from power and confuse the plots of

our enemies.

Guide the actions of our leaders so they may rule over us

according to your will. Overturn all laws and ordinances

that are against your holy law.

Allow prayer in school and our government.

Unite us in peace, under your supreme leadership and authority.

Turn our eyes from worthless things. Help us to use our

gifts and talents to give glory to You always.

Forgive us when pride starts to rear it’s ugly head.

Keep us from evil and temptation, through the power of the

Holy Spirit. Without You, we can do nothing.

Fill us with words and wisdom to spread your messages of

love and hope with others. Let Your blessing be upon us

and save us from the hands of our enemies, so all kingdoms of

the earth may know that you are the LORD God, and Your Son

Jesus is the only name by which man may be saved.

Help us to boldly confess our faith in Jesus as our Savior, and

stand up for the injustices of the poor and oppressed.

Let Peace prevail…Let Peace begin with me.

Thank you for allowing us the privilege of being the only

creatures you have created, who can change their

circumstances by faith and prayer, in the name of Jesus.

We offer to you the sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.

Thank you God, for You are Good, and Your mercy endures forever.

With You all things are possible. You are well able to deliver us,

for You are the Creator of heaven and earth, and Your son Jesus

died to win the victory for us over Satan’s power and death.

Help us to be godly citizens, who pray and support our leaders,

instead of criticizing and cursing them.

Help us to always be respectful and remember they are

chosen by You to lead and guide us. We do not have to fear

them, for they are all under Your control, and we trust

all things will work out for good…

and for the furtherance of the Gospel.

Thank you for your amazing hand of favor and blessings upon us.

We lift our praise and petitions to You, our Saviour, Creator, and Redeemer!

Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD and the people you have chosen

for your inheritance.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue,
but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. James 1:26

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of
conversation. Because it is written, Be ye hold; for I am holy.
1 Peter 1:15-16
