Chosing godly leaders who will govern wisely
Posted on September 27, 2011 by valerie
In many parts of the world, people are searching for new leaders for their nations.
Ones who can be trusted with tax dollars, and to govern with a heart of compassion.
God gives us many examples in the Bible of large and small decisions which leaders
were given to test their integrity and wisdom.
Solomon was considered the wisest man who ever ruled on earth, and he
asked God for wisdom, so he could rule his nation honorably.
(Today’s devotion is from 1 Kings 3)
The Bible tells us…
He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth
in the LORD, happy is he. Proverbs 16:20
Not long after Solomon had become king, 2 prostitutes came to
him with a domestic dispute.
It’s interesting to note, that Solomon took time for even this small domestic dispute,
from women who may have been considered by society as less than desirable.
The first woman said, O my lord, this woman and I live in the same house.
I delivered my child while living with her, and after 3 days she too gave
birth to a child.
In the night this woman accidentally laid on her child and it died. She
rose at midnight and took my sleeping son and placed her dead
child next to my breast.
When I woke in the morning to feed the child I saw it was dead,
but he was not my son.
She claims the living child is hers, but it is mine.
We have come before you to settle this dispute.
The king said to his servant, bring a sword and divide the child
in half. Give 1/2 of the child to each woman.
The woman whose child was the living one said, No king.
Give the living child to her, do not kill it.
The other woman said, yes let it not be mine or hers, but divide
it in half.
Solomon said, give the child to the woman who was kind and
said don’t kill it, for she is the mother.
All of Israel heard of his wise judgment and feared the king.
They realized the wisdom of God was in him to judge fairly
for the poor and outcasts of society.
Solomon had asked God for wisdom and an understanding heart
to judge, and it was apparent to all that God had answered his
prayer.
Solomon won respect from his people, because of his merciful
and compassionate ruling on behalf of the child and his mother.
The Bible says…
The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked
regardeth not to know it. Proverbs 29:7
We too have the ability to have great wisdom from God if we
seek him with our whole heart and study his word diligently.
He loves us so much he left us his letters of love in the Bible
to help us discern good from evil, and help us to prosper, be
healthy, and succeed in all we do.
A wise person will admit they don’t know how to run their
own life and submit themselves to their loving Father
in heaven and creator.
Solomon wrote most of the book of Proverbs which contain nuggets of
wisdom, divinely inspired by God.
If your life is in a state of confusion and you don’t know
where to turn…I pray you will open up God’s word
and ask him for wisdom and insight.
Solomon wrote…
My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
Proverbs 3:1-2
God loves you so much he sent his son Jesus to die for your sins
on the cross at Calvary. His sacrificial death paid your sin debt
in full and for the sins of the whole world.
Like wisdom, it is free for the asking.
Your loving Father in heaven longs to grant you the petitions
of your heart. A wise son or daughter will seek first, the
kingdom of God, his righteousness and wisdom…
and all other things needed in this life, will be
added.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the
holy is understanding. For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of
they life shall be increased. Proverbs 9:10-11
Come precious child, to the foot of the cross and ask
Jesus to be your LORD and Saviour.
Repent of your sins, and let his blood wash the
pain, shame and guilt away.
Today can be the first day of your new life…
if you choose to leave your past behind.
Run beloved into his loving outstretched arms
of mercy and grace.
All who call upon the name of the LORD, will be saved!
Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him,
and he in God. 1 John 4:15
Merciful Father in Heaven,
I come to the foot of the cross and ask you to forgive me
of my sins. Crucify old thoughts and habits that keep me
chained to sin and evil. I ask Jesus to be my LORD and
Saviour. I believe his death upon the cross paid my
sin debt in full. Through his blood I am made righteous
and can humbly come to your throne of grace to find
mercy, peace, and forgiveness.
Forgive me LORD for often asking for foolish things of
this world. I am but a child and need your wisdom and
knowledge to walk through this life victorious. I offer
to you my life, in gratitude for my salvation and ask
you to show me how I may serve you and give glory
to your name. Help me to schedule my time, and
use my gifts and talents with others to win souls
from the clutches of Satan and the powers of
darkness.
Take my hand Jesus and lead me to the souls that
are lost, so I may tell them of your amazing free
gift of salvation.
Father our leaders hearts are in your hands, and we trust you
to guide your people to new men and women of honor and integrity
to govern and rule over us. Take control our government,
our economy, our finances, our churches, schools, homes, health, and
families. If you are for us, no one can stand against us. Take out of
power the wicked, bless and prosper us, for your name’s sake.
Thank you LORD for always hearing and answering our prayers
and for abundantly providing for all our needs.
In Your blessed Jesus name we pray.
Amen
Your sister and servant of the LORD,
Valerie Rousseau
