www.rcr.ru/eng/Poysti says Poysti was born in Nikolsk-Ussurisk, Russia October 9, 1920 and immigrated to the United States in the 1930s.
In Russian, he was known as Yarl Nikolaiyevich Peisti. He lived with his family in New York and attended the National Bible Institute where he prepared himself for Christian ministry.
In 1946, he broadcast his first sermon in Russian over a local radio station in NY City. Poysti was active in broadcast radio ministry with various organizations until 2000, when he retired. His radio programs continue to be broadcast throughout Russia over satellite and on the Internet.
Poysti is survived by his wife Natasha, as well as five of his sons and his four daughters. Poysti’s first wife, Pirkko Suomela preceded him in death in 1994.
Jim Leonovich of the Slavic Missionary Society said of Poysti: “He was a great encouragement to me personally when I was feeling like I wanted to leave ministry. He will be missed by all Russian broadcasters, being one of the ‘great Heroes’ of short wave Russian language evangelism during the Soviet Era. He and my dad were great friends serving the Lord together in Monte Carlo with TWR and then in Russia.”
A private funeral will be held in Estes Park, Colorado for family members, while a series of memorial services will be held in various parts of the country. For more information, contact Russian Christian Radio at (770) 864.6464.
