…two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

When you’re studying the Word and the Spirit of God opens up those verses, doesn’t your heart burn within you? It’s the Father’s good pleasure to expound the Scriptures which give us understanding of things present and things to come.

God reveals Himself to us when we constrain Him with entreaties. He communes and reasons with all who love His Word. Let’s earnestly strive to know more about Him so our hearts will burn.

The men on the road begged Christ to tarry longer. How often do we stretch our hands to Him seeking for more Truth? Christ tarries and “sits at meat” with those who constrain Him. Let’s ask Christ to commune with us every time we open His Word which is Spirit and Life.

Possessing an ardent passion for the Saviour’s Bread of Life causes one to grow in grace and knowledge. He’ll break us up to make us whole even as He blesses us. The best part is that He’ll never vanish out of our sight as He did on the Road to Emmaus. He said He’ll be with us always, even unto the end of the world.

In times like these we need to turn to God’s word, to find encouragement
and answers to help us face our fears and exchange them for faith.

The Bible is filled with stories about people who faced poverty
and adversity. God lovingly spared their lives and helped them
not to give in to depression and despair.

In 1 Kings 17 the Prophet Elijah had just been asked by God to deliver
a depressing message of doom to King Ahab, that there would be no
rain in the land.

God then told him to go and hide himself by the brook Cherith so he
could have fresh water to drink each day.

The LORD divinely commanded a raven to bring Elijah bread and meat
in the morning and at night.

Imagine what faith it took, to trust God for this divine provision and
eat food from a scavenger bird.

Elijah was all alone in the wilderness, with only God and a bird to keep him
company.

After a long season of drought, the brook dried up, and God told Elijah
to travel to Zarephath to the house of a widow and he would be
cared for there.

When Elijah found the widow woman, she was outside gathering sticks.

Elijah had to swallow his pride and asked this poor old woman for a drink
of water.

The woman was willing to be kind to this stranger, but as she went to get
him a drink, he then asked for a morsel of bread.

The woman was very poor and said, As the LORD your God lives, I don’t have
a cake, but only a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse.

I was about to gather 2 sticks that I could make a meal for me and my son,
eat it, and die.

Elijah said to her, Fear not, go and do as I said, and make me a cake first,
bring it to me, and afterward make food for you and your son.

For thus says the LORD God of Israel, the barrel of meal and oil will not run
out until the day the LORD sends rain upon the earth.

The woman believed God and did as Elijah asked without grumbling,
doubting, or asking money from this stranger.

She and her son, Elijah ate for many days, even during a horrible season
of drought and famine in the land.

After a while, suddenly the woman’s son grew ill and died.

She became bitter with Elijah and thought God had brought
judgment upon her because of her sins.

Elijah took the boy up to the loft where he had been staying,
and laid him upon his bed.

Elijah cried out to God asking why he had brought evil
upon the woman and her son.

He then stretched himself upon the child 3 times and prayed for
God to breathe life back into the boy.

The LORD heard the voice of Elijah and the child revived.

When Elijah brought the boy down to his mother, she was
overjoyed and said, Now I know that you are a man of God
and the word of the LORD in your mouth is true.

We are so blessed to have the wonderful and encouraging
stories of scripture, to strengthen our faith when times
get tough.

We must remember, that God may bring seasons of trials
and hardship into our life, so we can witness and minister
to the needs of the poor and remind them of his love…
even when we’re hurting.

God didn’t want Elijah or the widow and her son to be
alone and depressed, so he united them during the
hard times, to test and strengthen their faith.

The LORD wants us to share our gifts and talents with others
and be a witness of his great and mighty power.

During seasons of heartache and fear, we sometimes would
like to dwell on our problems and feel sorry for ourselves,
but God shows us in his word, that when we give from
the heart, he will give to us.

Psalm 41:1 says…

Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord
will deliver him in time of trouble.

The Bible often speaks of God’s care for the weak, poor and needy
and of His blessing on those who share His concern. God wants our
generosity to reflect His own free giving. As He has blessed us we
should bless others.

Proverbs 14:31 reminds us…
He who oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker,
but that honoureth him that mercy on the poor.

God has a special concern for the poor. He insists that people who have material goods
should be generous with those who are needy. Providing for the poor is not just a suggestion
in the Bible; it is a command that may require a change in attitude.

He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD: and that
which he hath given will he pay him again. Proverbs 19:17

It is hard for human’s to understand the concept of giving, as lending to the
LORD. He is the one who repays us in many ways…the most important being
a softened heart, sensitive to the needs of others.

It is through giving, we are blessed and receive God’s joy and peace,
because we have not refused to lend the LORD our worldly possessions.
All things are HIS and we are merely the stewards He has loaned His goods to.

We are tested with these gifts of stewardship.

If we are faithful with little things, he can trust us with greater wealth and blessings.

We are blessed, not be rich…but to be a blessing to others.

King David wrote…The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the
fatherless and the widow. Psalm 146:9

Today you may be facing financial hardship, sickness, or adversity.

God loves you so much and has promised to never leave or forsake you.

The same God who provided for Elijah, the widow and her son, is well able
to help and heal you, if you only trust, pray, and believe.

King David wrote…The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall not want.

God knows if we’re hurting and no good thing will he withhold from
those who trust him.

We, like the widow may walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
but our loving Father will be with us to comfort and provide for all our needs.

Jesus said, In the world you will have trouble, but we can be of good cheer,
he has overcome the world.

One day soon, he will come back to get us, and take us to our heavenly mansion
in the sky…

He will dry every tear and there will be no more pain or sorrow.

Until that day, let’s be always waiting, watchful, and willingly
serve the LORD and others with gladness, knowing he is
a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.

All things are possible for those who believe.

Father, we thank you for joining us in friendship today, to study
your word and find hope and encouragement.

Many are struggling with sickness or financial problems.
You are the Great Physician and Provider of all our needs.
We ask you to lay your hands upon each one who is hurting
and make them whole. Provide jobs for all who are in need
and show us how to invest, spend, save, and give wisely,
so we can lend to many nations and not borrow.

Bless our President, vice-president, and leaders of government.
Help them to govern and rule according to your will. Instill in them a
desire to be men and women of honesty and integrity. Their hearts
are in your hands and we trust Jesus, the Prince of Peace to guide their
path and keep us safe from evil and temptation.

We love you and ask you to help us to minister to the needs of the
poor. May all who are in need receive hope, help, healing, employment,
and Jesus as their LORD and Savior. Help us to work together
in love, unity, and peace.

If you are for us, no one can stand against us.

Thank you for fixing the mail machine and for bringing Stephen home safely from

They have now been in custody for over 40 days. Pastor Farhad Sabokroh (From Mohabat News) According to the Iranian Christian news agency, Mohabat News (www.mohabatnews.com), family, relatives and a wide range of Iranian Christians within and outside Iran expressed their concern over the health condition of Pastor Farhad Sabokroh, who was arrested on December 23, 2011, with others in attendance at the Christmas service of the Assemblies of God (AOG) church of Ahwaz, where he was pastoring. According to this report, sources affirmed that Pastor Sabokroh, Naser Zamen-Defzuli and Davoud (David) Alijani were transferred to Karoun prison of Ahwaz. They have now been held in prison for over 40 days. They were arrested by security authorities in Ahwaz, (543 miles south west of Tehran, the Capital), which is in Khuzestan province. “Prior to his arrest, Pastor Sabokroh was under treatment for cataract disease and underwent surgery but now has no access to a doctor,” a spokesperson for Mohabat News told the ASSIST News Service. “Knowledgeable sources define his situation concerning this because, after the surgery, he needed to visit his doctor on a regular basis for the required medications. Now, with this situation, he is still not allowed to leave the prison after over 40 days to continue his treatment.” Christian Prisoners’ Rights Advocacy Club sent a report to Mohabat News expressing their deep concern and objection to illegal and inhuman acts by the Iranian Security system towards Iranian Christians, especially Pastor Sabokroh and the two other Christian prisoners who are being held with him. Illustration from www.freedomessenger.com   They called on the Intelligence and Judicial systems of Iran to free them immediately and grant Christian prisoners their legal and human rights. This organization also considers the continuation of Pastor Sabokroh’s medical treatment as his human right and adjudged the authorities as directly responsible for the health and welfare of Christian prisoners. Pastor Sabokroh’s wife was allowed to visit him briefly on January 27, 2012, and expressed concern over his health condition. “It’s being said that he spends most of his time in prayer and fasting in his cell. His physical situation is extremely bad and he has lost weight. He also asked all Iranian Christians to pray for the release of Christian prisoners,” added the Mohabat News spokesperson. “It should be remembered that Mrs. Shanaz Jeizan, the wife of Pastor Sabokroh was also among those arrested at Christmas in the AOG church of Ahwaz. After 10 days, she was temporarily released from the Intelligence office of Ahwaz after submitting a house title deed as bail.” According to this report, no news is available regarding the condition of the two other prisoners, Davoud Alijani and Naser Zamen-Dezfuli. They’re still being held in uncertainty and without being formally charged.” The reports also indicate that Noorollah Qabitizade, another Christian convert who was arrested on December, 24, 2010, is still being held in Karoun prison of Ahwaz. “He was subjected to severe interrogations by Intelligence officers from the time of his arrest,” added the spokesperson. “It is being reported that security authorities and interrogators have put him under different mental pressures including forcing him to sign commitments stating that he won’t participate in any evangelical activities and to write repentance notes renouncing Christianity, in order to make him discontinue his faith in Christ.” Dan Wooding, 71, is an award winning British journalist now living in Southern California with his wife Norma, to whom he has been married for 48 years. Ashfaq Fateh addressing the event (Photo: Ahsan Sadaqat) The young people decided to organize a program for this “Christian-Muslim Get Together” in connection with the birth celebrations for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and it was attended by Muslim clerics, political leaders, traders, students, media representatives, Christian pastors and priests, as well as community leaders who had been invited to express solidarity and share the celebrations with each other. The historic event took place on Thursday, February 2, 2012, in the Tehsil [Administrative Division] Municipal Hall, in Toba Tek Singh at which there was a recitation from the Holy Quran (Naat Shariefs) and songs were performed in respect of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).) Muslim speakers highlighted a message of “Peace and Harmony” with Christians and local pastors and priests assured Muslims that they “respect” their religion. Ashfaq Fateh, a Christian leader and organizer of the event, told the ASSIST News Service, “History is full of Christian-Muslim cooperation, as well as peace, love, and harmony between the two groups and Christians have been serving in education, health and social sector for a long time. However, for the last three decades, incidents of violence at Shantinagar and Gojra, as well as the killings of Emmanuel brothers in a broad daylight as they were leaving a courtroom after being charged with blasphemy, and many others have widened the gaps between the two communities. “The murder of Clement Shahbaz Bhatti, the Federal Minister for Minorities, and others, has created segregations and concerns among the weaker sections of the society. A common Christian feels hesitation to interact with a Muslims to avoid misunderstanding which causes tension between the two communities.” Ashfaq Fateh went on to state, “Muslim brothers and sisters expressed great love with Christians during Christmas and other religious events. The Muslim-Christian friendship is an example here. “In recent years, Muslims in Toba Tek Singh have set examples of love, tolerance and cooperation and so, therefore, our Christian youth decided to conduct a program in which a message could be given to the Muslim world that Christians have also expressed the same love and solidarity. The program planned to opened up new horizons of understanding and cooperation between the people of these two major religions.” Mr. Johnson Gill, a youth leader, said, “The Christian youth feel that it is time to express to Muslims our love and respect for their Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Holy Book of the Quran. When the Christians celebrate Christmas, New Year and Easter, Muslim friends shared the gifts, sent Christmas cakes and organized Christmas parties to enjoy the celebrations. If a Christian expected to be wished and respected, he/she should also express the same feelings for his/her Muslim friends. “Therefore, following the Gospel values, our youth decided to organize a program. It’s a great sign of change that the Muslim clerics of different sects, priests/pastors and people of various sections of life, welcomed the first ever program of celebration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by Christians in Pakistan.” Rasheed Jalal, district president the Pakistan Muslim League (N) for Minorities said, “The program is helping to break the cycle of segregation and it will open new horizons of dialogue and cooperation between the people of our two religions. “Finally, this kind of a program, organized for the first time in the history of Pakistan, was with the intention to assure our Muslim brothers and sisters that Christians love and respect what they believe and are not against their prophet, but rather wish to share in their celebrations.” Sahibzada Abdul Munam Husnan Sadique, a Muslim scholar, hailed the Christian youth for conducting such a gathering. Simon Khurshid, a parish priest at a local Catholic church, thanked the organizers for creating an opportunity for two communities for peace and harmony. He assured the Muslims that the Catholic church always pray for the Muslims whenever they have religious events or face difficulties or celebrations. “Christian charities help everyone whenever there are disasters like floods and earthquakes,” he said. “Most of the beneficiaries of charity programs are Muslims.” He then prayed for Muslim-Christian unity for “peace and development” in the country. How do you handle it when your plans get changed, even for good reasons? Does it stress you out? Do you feel disappointed, angry even? We're going to learn along with Jesus' disciples this week some big ideas about how to handle an unexpected change of plans.

Being one of Jesus' disciples was a crazy life. They were worn out, too busy from ministry with Jesus among the huge crowds to even find time to eat. Jesus saw the problem and said, “Let's get away; we need rest.”

I'd guess that sounded really good to them. They'd just come back from a mission away from Jesus; they probably felt like they needed some time with him that didn't involve hordes of needy people. You might feel that way sometimes. Time alone with God is important. Rest is essential. We're not built to just keep going — even in serving God — without stopping until we fall over.

So the plan was to get a break — but the break didn't happen. Come back tomorrow.

Think: On a scale from 1 to 10, how busy has your life been, lately? Have you been busy doing good things — or just doing? Do you ever get too busy to eat properly? How are you at resting and taking some time to just be alone with God once in a while?

Pray: Ask God to help you to be busy in your life doing things that are worthwhile. Ask Him, too, to give you enough times of rest and being alone with Him to keep from getting too worn out.

Do: Plan some restful time alone with God in the next week or so.

(ANS) – Joy Junction is typically thought of as being a homeless shelter, a place where needy people can find a place to stay and enjoy a warm, nourishing meal. While that’s very important, there is much more than just that going on there. While we shelter, feed people and provide an array of other services, we also offer a nine month faith-based life recovery program called CIPP, standing for Christ in Power Program. CIPP participants are taught the skills they will need to reenter and succeed in the work place. They’ll learn, for example, anger management, healthy eating habits, coping skills, resume writing and a variety of other important tools. Our graduates. A few weeks ago, we had a ceremony for 13 program graduates. Some of them shared how the program had touched their lives. Larry Jo said the graduation ceremony gave him a feeling of respect and more. He added, “Also, when doing something to better myself, not to give up, always go forward and if it is hard to continue what I started. Now that I have graduated, I know I can achieve and accomplish what is hard.” Rina said, “Graduation meant (seeing) a … number of people working together to reach a goal; to (overcome addictive behaviors). She said the other program participants and God helped her successfully graduate the program. Traci said graduation was very important for her, as it was only the third time in her life that she had successfully followed through to the conclusion of a goal. “It meant a sense of accomplishment,” she said. “Going through this nine month program, completing it and graduating made me feel like I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. It also gave me a sense of pride because I saw my friends and family’s faces and knew that they were proud.” Traci said it wasn’t an easy program. “There were many times I wanted to quit. But I stuck it out and made it through. So going through this graduation helped me realize what a strong person I have become. I stuck it out for nine months, and I am a better person today because of this program, and the staff here at Joy Junction.” Our other life recovery program participants who have yet to graduate were also in the audience. The ceremony touched them. Mike said when he graduates it will mean “the completion of a goal and the beginning of a new phase in my life.” He added, “Dr. Reynalds has found a way through our Lord to make Joy Junction a shelter every other (mission) in America should emulate. The CIPP program has not only saved me but changed my life completely. For someone who has been agnostic his entire life to be saying what I say now about my belief in Jesus as my Lord and Savior proves that if you want your life bad enough, this program works. You just have to want it and have a little faith.” Leona said when she graduates our life recovery program, she will have “the knowledge and resources to continue on a path of sober living and a change of life style.” She added, “Also, completing the 12 step program will help me earn the respect of my children as they are also hurting as a result of a broken family and separation. This will help my marriage and getting my family back together.” Elizabeth said that graduation for her will mean “my heart and soul have been filled with the love of God.” She added, “ I will be able to accomplish anything that I set out to do. Being empty like before, the responses from finding a job, to talking to people always seemed to be on the negative side. Now I will feel like I can face and conquer the world with my head up and a smile on my face. My Take The graduation ceremony was a wonderful experience, and one in which God’s Presence and blessing was evident. The healing team outside Bath Abbey A registered Christian trust, the “Healing on the Streets – Bath” (www.hotsbath.org) team, comprised of Christians from many different churches, have been praying for the public outside Bath Abbey for three years and regularly offer to pray for people who are sick to receive healing. But atheist Hayley Stevens, a 24-year-old from Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire, who is a regular blogger and speaker at skeptic conferences, took offence to the group’s adverts, complaining to the ASA that the claims by the Christians could “not be substantiated.” On the www.thisissomerset.co.uk website, she is quoted as saying, “I have complained before to the ASA about claims to do with healing people, but they were against spiritual healers or people making false claims about treatments. I didn’t even realize the Healing on the Streets people were Christian until I got home and looked at their website. “My issue isn’t with their Christian faith, it is with the potentially dangerous situation of vulnerable people who think they will be cured of something as serious as cancer. Hayley Stevens’ complaint against a Christian group was upheld (Photo: www.thisissomerset.co.uk) “I don’t think it is appropriate for them to be out on the streets taking the chance that they could come across someone with, say, mental health issues who should be being treated properly.” Her complaint was upheld and the ASA have now ordered the group to stop stating on their website or in literature that God can heal. The founder of the Christian group, Paul Skelton, said: “Other teams around the country have been targeted in similar ways. “It seems very odd to us that the ASA wants to prevent us from stating on our website the basic Christian belief that God can heal illness. “The ASA has even demanded that we sign a document agreeing not to say this, which is unacceptable to us – as it no doubt would be for anyone ordered not to make certain statements about their conventional religious or philosophical beliefs. “The ASA has decided it is appropriate to insist that we cannot talk about a common and widely held belief that is an important aspect of conventional Christian faith. They would now like us to recant our Christian faith in the Bible. “We tried to reach a compromise, recognizing some of the ASA’s concerns, but there are certain things that we cannot agree to – including a ban on expressing our beliefs.” HOTs has said that it will now appeal the decision. Membera of the healing team praying for a woman Andrea Minichiello Williams, CEO of Christian Concern, said: “This decision strikes at the heart of freedom of belief in the UK. Will we be told that telling people their sins are forgiven, or that you can go to heaven, breaches advertising standards next? “Will all Christian websites and leaflets now be liable to these types of complaints? Is all Christian doctrine now going to be ruled as misleading by the ASA? “This decision reveals all too clearly how basic freedoms quickly begin to be lost in a nation that has increasingly chosen secularism over the Christian faith.” The “Healing on the Streets – Bath” website says that it is a Christian trust and its vision is to: “Promote Christian Healing as a daily life style for every believer, though demonstration, training and equipping.” It adds that they are working in unity, from numerous churches outside the four walls of the building, in order to: * Heal the sick * Share God’s love * Equip the Church The website — http://www.hotsbath.org/stories.html – also features stories of claimed healings which you can check out for yourself.
