LONDON, ENGLAND

(ANS) – As a precursor to a National Day of Prayer at London’s West Ham Stadium on 13th June 2010, GDOP London is calling every church and Christian in the UK to a season of prayer and fasting for the nation. As the country moves closer to a historic chairos moment with the British general elections taking place May 6, GDOP London convener Jonathan Oloyede is urging the church to rise up prophetically and perform her duty as ‘kingmaker.’

“Every church, ward, borough or district should take responsibility in prayerfully deciding who is elected locally into public office. Churches need to hold vigils, conduct special prayer services and urge their congregants to do a little bit more towards the election which is a divine selection. If we pray then as our Lord taught us, God’s will shall be done in Brighton, Hereford, Luton, York and everywhere,” explains Dr Oloyede.

Andrea Minichiello Williams from Christian Concern for Our Nation is also encouraging Christians across the UK to fast and pray for the upcoming General Election.

“Given the state of our society, I feel burdened to call Christians across the nation to fast and pray. The Bible calls us to pray for our leaders for kings and all those in high positions. Pray that those who are elected will be MPs that would seek to espouse Godly principles at the heart of governance. Pray that we would have Christ-centred policy.”

GDOP London is also calling upon every church, village, town and city to send a delegation of hundreds to the National Prayer event at West Ham Stadium on Sunday 13th June. Organisers are also urging churches to unite locally in prayer on Pentecost Sunday 23rd May as ramp up events towards the mass gathering.

“We join with millions of Christians across the world on that day. Let us
unite locally and globally. We need to consolidate the result of our prayers at the polls with united focus on what the Lord wants done in our nation over the next few years, The Lord wants us to move forward as His United Church in the nation,” said Dr Oloyede.

Tickets are free for children under 10 to allow whole families to attend.

GDOP London advises churches to book coaches for their congregations to support families, the elderly and vulnerable.

Artists lined up to lead the thousands in worship include Graham Kendrick, Noel Robinson, Godfrey Birtil, the All Souls Orchestra and X Factor finalist Beverly Trotman amongst others.

Tickets can be booked by logging on to: www.gdoplondon.com or people can call the booking line on: + 44 02088 539 529

The Global Day of Prayer London (GDOP) is a movement of collaboration across the Christian Church in the capital towards Unity, Prayer and Transformation, and is part of a global network which began in South Africa at the turn of the Millennium. In 2009 over 250 million Christians united in 220 countries to pray. In London, GDOP has been a focus of prayer and Christian action since 2006 with prayer networks now in every London borough. West Ham Stadium 07, and Millwall Football Stadium in 2008, saw a combined attendance of 30,000 Christians attending. Organisers hold a vision to host the 2011 event at Wembley Stadium.
