New Broadcasting Association Formed in Indonesia
|
With prayer and great, lively discussion, a new association of Christian broadcasters has recently been birthed in Indonesia. Christian communicators from across Indonesia and the Asia Pacific region gathered recently in that country to discuss the value and importance of an association to provide greater strength and effectiveness in proclaiming the Gospel in the largest Muslim country in the world. Indonesia has almost 240 million people, and is composed of about 17,000 islands, only 6,000 of which are inhabited. It has very diverse cultures, ranging from the major metropolitan cities like Jakarta, to small tribal villages. While it is predominantly Muslim in its religious make-up, Hindu and animist are prevalent. The Christian population is estimated to be between 15-20%. International broadcasters often assist their counterparts in Indonesia, helping to train and encourage Christian broadcasters in this fourth most populous nation in the world. Dr. Ron Harris, Senior Vice President for Strategic Partnership of the National Religious Broadcasters association in the US, was an invited speaker at the gathering. He said:”I was impressed with the dedication of these broadcasters, their deep faith, and their desire to proclaim God’s Truth, no matter what obstacles they may face. They are God’s servants in a critical day for their culture.” Harris stated: “Our prayer for this new association is that they will find renewed power to serve Christ as they gain strength from each other. Their task is challenging, but their resolve is strong. And their joy in the Lord is evident in their lives.”
